Background

Concentric was retained to provide structural design services as Structural Engineer of Record for the St. Judes Church reconstruction in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Approach & Methodology

St. Judes Church was destroyed by a fire. The church was a recognized landmark in the community and of great social importance.

The rebuild stalled when the superstructure designer/supplier became insolvent. The proposed system had been modular wood concept. Concentric was asked by NCC Development to provide input for alternate superstructure systems that would be appropriate for the existing foundations and architectural plans. Concentric recommended a dome structure and continued as NCCD's Engineer of Record until project completion.

Key Challenges

Recommendation of an appropriate superstructure system; appropriate for existing foundations, architectural plans and a project in mid-construction.

Key Personnel

Project Director: Allan Murray, P. Eng.
Senior Project Manager: Andrew Ross, P.Eng.
