Background

Concentric was retained to develop and implement a QA/QC program for the construction of two load-out tracks in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. This program includes site visitation and testing, with detailed site reports and test results prepared for client review.

Approach & Methodology

To ensure construction meets federal standards and proper procedure is being followed by the contractor, the following work is being completed by Concentric:
• Natural moisture content testing
• Sieve test analysis
• Standard and modified proctor density tests
• Inspection of excavation and classification of excavation material
• In-situ compaction testing using nuclear densometer
• Review of finish grade, elevations, rail, ballast, tie-ins, signalling
• Commissioning and close-out
A report has been submitted for each test result and for each site inspection, keeping the client aware of construction progress and any potential complications. Communication with the client is emphasized, with project update meetings scheduled on a consistent basis.

Key Challenges

A limited time frame created by weather conditions required that the testing and monitoring processes were structured to accommodate this challenge. Further delays were created by unforeseen construction issues which were relayed to the client and resolved by Concentric in conjunction with the contractor.
