Background

Concentric was retained to provide professional engineering services for the design-build of the Inuksugait Plaza Phase IV facility in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Approach & Methodology

Concentric provided the following services:
 Conceptual design and selection of structural system
 Structural refinement process and dialogue with NCC construction managers
 Coordination with Architect and sub-consultants/suppliers as required
 Drafting of all required plans and details
 Preparation of required material/performance specifications
 Issuance of drawings for permit and construction, signed and sealed
 Shop drawing review (wood joist and structural steel)
 Periodic construction review during the construction phase
 Preparation and distribution of written site reports
 Review of deficiencies and their rectification
 Issuance of general conformance letter

Key Challenges

The client was looking for a design that could potentially reduce high labour costs. Concentric proposed an all steel superstructure and steel stud infill walls as a time based cost savings measure, resulting in a significantly reduced site erection period.
