Background

Concentric was retained to create a structural design for a fall arrest / tie off anchor at a training and education centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

Approach & Methodology

Concentric completed a review of record structural as-built drawings for the building framing in an effort to design the new anchor mechanism which was supported by the existing building framing.

The anchor mechanism consisted of several fall arrest anchors / tie off points installed along a beam used to train various trade persons in fall arrest, suspended platform rigging and use including proper techniques as required by the applicable CSA and occupational health and safety act.

A combination of steel beams, channels and HSS square tubing were utilized in the construction of the anchor mechanism. Fall arrest anchors / tie off anchors installed consisted of industry standard anchor points.

Key Challenges

Locally reinforce existing structural members to resist the additional fall arrest anchor loads.
