This quarry has been a primary source of granular material for over 40 years.
In September 2004, during a routine visual inspection of the gravel pit by a municipal employee, a stockpile of unmarked and open bags was discovered, which, upon further investigation were found to contain Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s).
Laboratory testing later revealed that the ACM was Amosite asbestos.
In order to mitigate the risk associated with asbestos exposure the municipality retained the services of Concentric to create an Asbestos Management Plan (AMP).
Upon the completion of the AMP, Concentric provided terms of reference for the safe operation and management of the site, which is still the reference document for asbestos containing materials in the gravel pit to this day.
