In 2006 Concentric provided consulting services to address select building envelope deficiencies at a two storey high school.
The thirty-five (35) year old structure is clad with a combination of brick veneer and prefinished metal infill panels below aluminum framed window units.
After staff and students had concerns with a moldy/musty smell emanating from classrooms and office areas, Concentric was retained to complete selective indoor air quality (IAQ) testing in the areas of concern.
Based on the results of this investigation, which identified evidence of microbial activity, Concentric undertook additional investigation involving several invasive openings in the brick veneer and interior components of the school.
The investigation revealed several areas of concern in the building envelope, which were identified as the cause of the microbial activity.
Working in concert with the contractor and school board staff, Concentric developed a program to remove the building materials of concern and to reinstate the building envelope.
